I have a question for you (all three of you readers). My bread maker broke (gasp!). I seriously couldn't live without it. I loved making homemade pizza dough and bread. I'm so sad. So, I'm on the search for something to replace it. In the meantime I will go without homemade bread and will be using Trader Joe's pizza dough. But, I'm curious about the Kitchen Aid mixers. I've read that you can make dough and bread out of it. Has anyone done just that? I'm not a huge baker (besides chocolate chip cookies) which I know is a big plus for the kitchen aid. Does anyone have it that can offer advice?

Missy, do not even get me started on how much I love the kitchen Aid mixer. I think it is my prized possession. I have been telling Megg for years that she needs one. Bread, piece of cake. Cookies, a breeze. Banana bread, a sinch. Whipped cream, easy peasy. Mashed potatoes, smooth as silk. You only dirty one bowl for cookies, you can whip cream hands free. As an added bonus, the gorgeous colors that the Artisan comes in makes me so happy.
I really can't say enough good things about the KA.
Miss, I think they are worth it. I would get one in a heartbeat if we had a little extra cash flow coming in. Tonya has shown me how wonderful of a chef they make you. And who couldn't use the help?
Ok, it sounds PERFECT. I had no idea that it was so great at mashed potatoes, bread and pizza dough.
It seems like there are a lot of versions of it. Is the Artisan the best? Of course all of these questions are for "down the line" since I can't get one yet. But, hopefully soon.
Miss, there are only a few versions out there, but the Artisan is the way to go. It does everything you need, comes with the beater, whisk and dough hook.
AND, you can always buy awesome attachments such as the ice cream maker, the pasta roller, fruit and vegetable strainer, can opener, veggie slicer, wheat grinder and fruit juicer.
Very, very few material objects make me as happy as the Kitchen Aid mixer. I'm not really even sure why, to tell you the truth.
Sigh. I have one, and I only use it to make cookies. I need to be better...
